Scania 143 E Tow Truck, Collewijn, NL

The Collewijn Scania wrecker with Challenger 8808 body: notes and drawings for building it as a model.

Revell released the 1:25 Peterbilt wrecker of Stepps Towing Service in 1992. The Challenger 8808 body came from Miller Industries of Ooltewah, Tennessee. The recovery and towing company Collewijn from Groenekan near Utrecht had exactly this type built on the chassis of its Scania T 143 EL 8×4/4 L 47Z with 420 hp.

This Italeri kit would be well suited for building the wrecker. It has a different type designation, as it is a model with only one driven rear axle, but that should pose no problem for an experienced model builder. Since this Scania has a long-distance cab, it would have to be shortened according to the drawing.

Here you can download a chassis drawing of the Scania T 143 in 1:24 scale. It is exactly the chassis on which the Challenger 8808 was built, although this drawing shows the short version.

For building a model, the wheelbase from the centre of the front axle to the centre of the second axle (steering axle) must be 175 mm. After that, follow the dimensions on the drawing, so twice 1350 mm would be exactly 56.25 mm in 1:24 scale.
