Hanomag Trailer

How the Revell 1:24 Hanomag trailer for the Büssing 8000 came about, from measuring the original to the tooling in China.

A suitable trailer naturally could not be missing for the finished Büssing 8000 and the other vintage trucks that were still planned, so a model of a Hanomag trailer followed, also in 1:24 scale.

I found a prototype at the haulage company Lipperts in Gangelt-Birgden. It was important that the Büssing's flatbed could be used.

Using the numerous photos of the Hanomag trailer, I could then make the drawings for the toolmaker in China.

I measured the original trailer completely and transferred all dimensions straight to 1:24 scale on the drawing board.

The entire tarpaulin with all its parts is also made up of components already used on the Büssing and Krupp tractors. So it is an existing sprue, supplemented with suitable parts for the trailer.

I had taken the dimensions of the tyre, including its diamond tread pattern, from a vehicle in Emil Bölling's collection. This tyre was then to be used for all Revell vintage truck models.

It, too, was made in China.

Once again I was in China, this time for the acceptance of the tooling model of the Hanomag trailer. On the left in the picture Gary Chan, in the middle Vincent Lay.

The people at Revell Engineering had built the trailer twice as large as the later kit model.

The guys know their craft and are perfect model builders. Everything was built exactly as I had specified in my drawings.
